We have named him… (drumroll)… Oranjello.
Clint was the one who first said it out loud and therefore gets credit for the name. It comes from the band Green Jelly (formerly known as Green Jello). The band members used Oranjello and Lemonjello as their aliases on a talk show, Talk Soup. I couldn’t remember what band it was, but Clint volunteered the information when we were hanging out last Saturday.
When Clint first suggested the name, we googled for it, and the first page was some baby names page that was talking about the “urban myth” of twin boys named Oranjello and Lemonjello. After reading along, we get down to the comments. Clint was the first one to leave a comment on 12/8/2004! It actually spawned quite the discussion about racism.
Alas, I cannot find any mention of the band Green Jelly using the names Oranjello and Lemonjello. Oh well.
UPDATE: I forgot to say that the vet has confirmed that he is long-haired.
We found his father: http://icanhascheezburger.com/2008/04/16/funny-pictures-direkly-proportional-to-amount-of-happy/

It happened! It was on Talk Soup the week that Timothy Leary died, because they talked about how they wanted to smoke his ashes. They were way funnier than Greg Kinnear / that hot chick Darcy / and those other people that would sometimes host Talk Soup, nowadays renamed as “The Soup”.

I was wondering if he might be a domestic longhair when I saw his fuzzy little face!
If you want, I have a special undercoat comb that can brush out the fuzzy cottony fur underneath. I thought I’d lost it so I’d bought a second one and then found the first one and I don’t need two.

Thanks, Angel, I’d love that!
I’ve never owned a long-haired cat before. D’oh. I’ve also never owned an orange kitty before…

Yeah, I recommend you get him used to being combed while he’s still little and open to suggestion.

I’m rubbing his stomach and yelling at him when he gets mad, so make him lose his sense of personal space…

It still doesn’t mean he’ll enjoy having all his hair tugged out when you brush him.

BTW, Carolyn, I’ll try to get the brush to you as soon as I can. I think I have my batch of clothes for donating so I can drop both off.
The brush is designed to grab the thicker “undercoat” of fur so it’ll pass through the top coat. Depending on how his fur is you’ll probably still want to comb him with a normal paddle or slicker brush or something to get the top coat. However, he should’t require nearly as much grooming as my stupid cat!

@Angel, That’d be awesome.
I’ve been trying to brush Oranjello, but he keeps trying to bite me, or the brush, or he just sits there with his mouth open waiting for me to put my guard down. Hahaha.. Luckily, he doesn’t bite too hard, and I’ve been squealing when he does it to try to deter him.

Ouch, kitten bites can hurt!
Glad you found a cute name for him.

The only thing I can maybe advise is reading some persian cat forums to see how they train their cats early to accept brushing. My little beast came to me at the tender age of 6 so I have no idea what her previous owners did/didn’t do. Maybe you’ll luck out and he’ll just be fluffier than a normal shorthair cat and not too prone to mating.

I meant matting. My computer is being slow since I’m installing some updates and I couldn’t correct the missing “t”!

I can’t speak for long haired cats, but Vlad used to HATE brushing. Now, he loves it. In fact, both cats do. Just get him used to it early.
